Bulgaria weather patterns vary between regions, as they are influenced to a great extent by each area’s altitude. Thanks to particularities of Bulgaria weather that are exceptionally favourable for growing vines, fruits and vegetables, the country carries a centuries-old reputation for the oil yielding rose it produces.
During the winter season weather in the seaside regions of Bulgaria is considerably milder to those one can expect to come across in the interior of the country, while in summer the seaside is also a lot cooler. Weather conditions in the interior are considered harsh, in the south and Black Sea coastal regions Mediterranean influences help to temper weather patterns. Summers in Bulgaria are hot and dry and humidity remains at a relatively moderate level and the winters are cold not bitterly so. May, October and November are the rainiest months of the year.
Spring
Springtime in Bulgaria is known for its typically continental weather attributes, as well as the tendency to switch between different weather patterns easily and frequently.
Summer
Weather in Bulgaria during the summer season varies greatly between its Northern and South parts. Accordingly temperature levels fluctuate greatly from region to region, ranging between 25-30°C, although in the towns of Rousse and Silistra they can soar higher than the 35°C mark. Northern Bulgaria, especially the area along the Danube River experiences a hot and sweltering type of weather, while nights in the northern and eastern mountainous districts of the Balkan mountains are considerably cooler. The weather in South Bulgaria is greatly influenced by the air-currents from the Mediterranean.
Autumn
The autumn season in Bulgaria is rather mild and pleasant with showers frequently denting the prevailing fine weather.
Winter
Understandably, conditions in the Southern part of Bulgaria are much milder in comparison to those found in the Northern part of the country, where they take a considerably colder form, with temperatures varying between 0° and 7°C below zero, occasionally dipping to a freezing 20°C below zero.
